Born on the oceanfront, Singing my songs by heart. Born in the month of June, Under a milky moon.
2.
Far from my home on the 4th of July, Singing the praises of patriots and spies. Far from my home, fireworks in the sky, Singing along to the stars and to the stripes. I don’t know where I belong, Somewhere close or somewhere far Beyond wild dreams in the land of the free, Mountains and streams, shining seas, ships and airplanes. I’m not sure I want to know Why I stay and why I want to Go to the place where the sun meets the waves, Biding my time ’til everything’s all— Right in the world, until everyone’s fine, Hoping to find that I’m aging like fine wine. Far from my home, hard at work in disguise, Living alone on an ocean of lost time. I wanna go where everyone knows How to be kind – The 4th of July arrived.

High Tide 03:00
One morning glory grows On the fence along the shore. One warning sign of snow, When the morning glory folds. High tide, sunshine Wind in my sails – In time, we’ll fly Rings in the air. One mourning marigold Laid upon the sandy stone. One warning sign of snow, When the marigold will close. High tide, sunshine Wind in my sails – In time, we’ll fly Rings in the air.
4.
Making Fun 04:49
On the open ocean rowing, Towards the sun. On the open ocean floating, Making fun. On the open-ended sea, Hopeful for a breeze To blow my way home. On the open road a’strollin’ Towards the sun. On the open road an omen, Making fun. On the open road I’ll be Hopeful for a breeze To blow my way home. On the open ocean rowing, Towards the sun. On the open ocean floating, Making fun.
5.
Sleep tight, Beside the bed A nightlight To keep your mind At ease And everlasting peace – Full of dreams With all your favorite people. Sleep, child, Beside the bed, A red fire To warm your head And bring You everlasting peace – Full of dreams With all your favorite people.
6.
From the sun a rainbow river runs. From the day dawning comes the light, Dandelions and pink petunias, Daffodils and purple tulips. In my hands, so strong, Spring has sprung. The sparrows, Out on the breeze Flying circles above the trees, Down from the sun a rainbow river runs and runs. From the sun a rainbow river runs. From the night falling, comes the call: Snowy owls and wolves in winter, Moose and black bears, all together In my fears, so long, Spring has sprung. The sparrows, Out on the breeze Flying circles above the trees, Down from the sun a rainbow river runs and runs, And runs and runs and runs.
7.
In my prime, Hiding behind Windows and blinds, Night and day. In my prime, Biding my time, Building a fire, Night and day. Not afraid to find ‘In my prime’ is only a frame of mind. Inside, There is a light Burning bright Night and day. Not afraid, Anticipation Is a way of life. In my prime, Hiding behind Windows and blinds, Night and day.

Make Believe 02:55
Love’s all around, in the atmosphere mushroom clouds; Follow the sound of the heartbeat under the ground. Maybe one day, my baby, We’ll grow old and walk along the beach – Or do you want to come with me? We’ll roam the world and make believe we’re free. Call me crazy, Better that than waiting. Love’s all around, in the ocean a cannon ball; Follow the sound of explosions as they rain down. Maybe one day, my baby, We’ll grow old and lie beneath a tree – Or do you want to come with me? We’ll roam the world and make believe we’re free. Call me crazy, Better that than waiting.

Born on the mountaintop, Singin’ to Ma and Pop. Born in the frame of mind, Of an eternal child.

about

Land of the Honeysuckle Wine is the sophomore album from Assorted Orchids, the alias of 37-year-old Massachusetts native T. McWilliams. Written and recorded in the mill town of Lowell, near McWilliams’ childhood home, Land of the Honeysuckle Wine is a continuation of – and companion to – the singer-songwriter’s 2021 self-titled debut on Whale Watch Records.

The title is a reference to a lyric from “The Mighty Kingdom,” that first album’s penultimate track, in which McWilliams sings from the perspective of an explorer who discovers a lost civilization, long since abandoned, save for a solitary orphaned child. Land of the Honeysuckle Wine is an epilogue to that story – written from the perspective of that child, in that place.
